Feng Shui Energy
Feng Shui and positive energy

Feng Shui is about the flow of energy within our homes and how our relationship to those energies may affect us and invite opportunities into our lives. Often people care only about the look and functionality of a home rather than the most important thing – the health of their home. A home can look and feel great at first although after extended periods of time the energy can sometimes work against the occupants rather than supporting them.

De-clutter your life

Before you can Feng Shui your home or work place you need to rid yourself of clutter, as clutter within your living space can reduce the effective flow of energy. The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to look at our environment and surroundings with new eyes!

Symbolically, clutter represents stuck energy. Physical clutter in your environment is often mirrored internally. Imagine everything you own is attached to you by a thin thread of energy. The more things you have, the more strings you have attached to you. These strings act as an anchor and hold you firmly in your current situation and prevent you from moving forward in life. Therefore the more cluttered your environment, the more stagnant your life is likely to be, and carrying around a lot of clutter both internally and externally will slow you down and tire you out.

It is said that clutter in wardrobes, bathroom cabinets, fridges, garages, cars, handbags, drawers and underneath beds are clutter hot-spots. Clutter at floor level pulls your energy down and can have a depressing effect. It can also indicate that you are trapped in the past.

How to get started

Start small with just one drawer. Once you get started, you will feel great! Take a look around your living space. Anything that you look at that you do not like or conjures up a negative feeling, either throw it out or give it away to a charitable organization. An example of this is a gift you may have received from someone that you don't like and every time you see this item you have negative feelings… what is the point of holding onto it? You must surround yourself with positive energy and that means surrounding yourself with items that mean something positive to you and make you feel good.

In short, if you don't like it or haven't used it for a long time, get rid of it! You have to let go of the old to make space for the new.

Feng Shui Balance

Bringing positive energy into your home

Once you have done a good “clutter clear” you can then start to look at the Feng Shui of your living space. The best place to start is at the entrance of your home. The energy you are bringing into the home is directly related to the wealth and prosperity you experience in your life, so it is important to make this area as inviting as possible. The entrance should be spacious, well-lit and free from clutter to encourage the flow of positive energy.

Top five things you can do today to increase the positive energy in your home

  1. As soon as you wake up – think positive thoughts
  2. Clean out a cupboard or the fridge and throw out any expired foodstuffs, crockery, broken items, and all other items you no longer require
  3. Get rid of any dead plants in and around the house
  4. Nice smells (aromatherapy) and good music attract positive energy and lift your spirits, so burn some incense and listen to your favorite tunes!
  5. Maintain a good supply of fresh air by opening windows and allowing the air to circulate

Water, Energy and Feng Shui

Another important factor influencing the Feng Shui of your home is the use of water features such as fish tanks, table top fountains or swimming pools. Water has a very powerful influence on the Feng Shui of your environment and incorporating running water into your home (i.e. a Feng Shui fountain) can be beneficial for the flow of positive energy. However, you should exercise caution in choosing where to place such water features, as they will activate the energy in the area where they are placed. This is where a professional Feng Shui consultant can come in handy!

Using a Feng Shui consultant

If you are building or buying a new home, or would like to improve the energy in your current environment, you may like to enlist the services of a Traditional Feng Shui consultant. Your consultant will visit your environment to analyse the “unseen energies” in your home and will identify any obstacles that you may be experiencing. Remedies can then be recommended based on the five elements of Feng Shui in order to alleviate these problems and ensure that your environment is supporting you rather than working against you.

When choosing your Feng Shui consultant, the AFSC - Association of Feng Shui Consultants (a non profit association) can help you to find a qualified professional. All members of the AFSC are fully qualified, and have also signed the Associations Code of Ethics.
