Trash Fashion... Designing Out Waste
Donna Sgro - On show at London Science Museum
Today it's my pleasure to showcase a design by Sydney based fashion designer Donna Sgro which has recently attracted international recognition for its sustainable, ethical practices. The dress is featured in an exhibition at the London Science Museum entitled Trash Fashion... Designing Out Waste which runs unti9l early 2011.
Trash Fashion explores way in which designers across the globe are reducing the impact of throwaway fashion through innovative design solutions and new technology. The 'Morphotex' dress pictured here uses a unique fabric, inspired by the Morpho butterfly found along the Amazon River in South America and uses no dyes or pigments, yet reflects a full spectrum of translucent colours under light, much like the Morpho's cobalt-blue pigment free wings.
